Popular Nigerian singer, Iyanya, has spoken candidly about his ongoing struggle with maintaining celibacy, admitting that the commitment often becomes difficult whenever he meets women he finds attractive.
The 39-year-old made the revelation during a recent episode of the Afropolitan podcast, where he shared personal reflections on relationships, self-control and emotional growth. According to the Ur Waist crooner, his attempt at celibacy has been inconsistent, describing it as something that “goes up and down.”
Iyanya explained that while he sometimes tries to stay celibate, certain encounters weaken his resolve, leading to moments he later regrets. He noted that after breaking his celibacy, he often finds himself longing for the discipline and peace that came with it.
The singer also revealed that marriage is not currently on his radar, stressing that he does not feel mentally prepared for such a commitment. He said this realization has pushed him to become more honest in his interactions with women.
Iyanya added that, unlike in his younger years when he might have said things just to please people, he now prioritizes emotional honesty. He said he makes it clear from the start that he is still healing and not in a place to offer deep emotional commitment.
According to him, this approach has helped him avoid misleading others or playing with people’s emotions, allowing him to focus on personal growth while being transparent about where he stands emotionally.
