India Deports Nigerian Student for Visa Overstay, Alleged Drug Peddling Links

A Nigerian national has been deported from India after authorities accused him of overstaying his visa and maintaining ties with a drug distribution network operating across Hyderabad and Bengaluru.

Hyderabad police confirmed the removal of Onyeukwu Victor, who first arrived in India on a student visa in 2021 but reportedly remained in the country after his documentation expired in 2024. His deportation followed an operation by the Hyderabad Narcotics Enforcement Wing (H-NEW), which had been monitoring suspected foreign links to the city’s growing synthetic drug market.

Investigators allege that Victor worked with drug suppliers and helped deliver narcotics to local clients. He was arrested in the upscale Banjara Hills district, where police say he failed to present valid immigration papers or give a credible explanation for his extended stay.

Although no drugs were found on him at the point of arrest, authorities say background checks confirmed his visa violation, prompting an immediate deportation order.

The Times of India reports that the Hyderabad police have intensified crackdowns on foreign nationals involved in drug trafficking, with immigration breaches now treated as a fast-track route to removal from the country.

Victor has since been returned to Nigeria, and Indian authorities say further investigations into the network he allegedly worked with are ongoing.
