Ireti Doyle opens up on divorce, says she refuses to be used as “click bait”

Veteran Nollywood actress Ireti Doyle has spoken publicly for the first time about her divorce from actor Patrick Doyle, years after the couple ended their marriage.

The actress had earlier confirmed the separation in an interview in January 2023, but declined to share details at the time. Despite the divorce, both actors have continued to maintain a professional relationship in the film industry.

In a recent interview with Morayo Brown, Ireti described the end of her marriage as painful, but explained her decision to remain private about the matter.

She said her silence was intentional, stressing that her personal life is not for public consumption.

According to her, only close family members and trusted friends are entitled to explanations about the breakdown of her marriage.

“The only people you owe explanation to at all are those family and friends that gathered on day one,” she said, adding that she would not allow her personal life to be turned into media content.

Ireti was firm in rejecting public speculation, stating that she would not allow herself to become “click bait” for attention.

“God forbid because I will never knowingly give myself up as a click bait,” she said, noting that while the end of any relationship is painful, it is a deeply personal experience that should be respected.

She also emphasized that once a marriage ends, the circumstances leading to the separation are private matters that do not require public scrutiny.

“Two people come together to get married, there’s a celebration. Sadly, unfortunately something went wrong and you could no longer continue the life journey together,” she added.

Her remarks have since drawn attention, with many fans and observers reacting to her stance on privacy and the pressures public figures face when dealing with personal challenges.
