Abdulmumin Jibrin, the representative of Kiru/Bebeji Federal Constituency in Nigeria’s House of Representatives, has formally left the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) to return to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Announcing his defection on Facebook, Jibrin declared his full support for President Bola Tinubu’s re-election bid in 2027. He said his decision reflects the unanimous wishes of his supporters to align with the ruling party.
“Today, in a show of solidarity, I was warmly received by thousands of my constituents in my hometown of Kofa, Bebeji, Kano,” Jibrin wrote. The gathering, he added, resolved to abandon the NNPP and the Kwankwasiyya Movement, join the APC, and endorse Tinubu for a second term.
Jibrin noted that nearly 2,000 scholars from his constituency have offered prayers for the President, seeking peace, development, and progress for Kiru/Bebeji, Kano, and Nigeria.
Two months ago, Jibrin resigned from the NNPP following his expulsion over alleged anti-party activities and unpaid dues. He described his suspension as “shocking and unjustified,” arguing that an interview he gave in both English and Hausa, which the party cited as grounds for expulsion, did not warrant such action. He also criticized the NNPP for denying him a fair hearing and due process, though he said he would not challenge the expulsion in court.
The lawmaker insisted he had fulfilled his membership obligations and denied defaulting on dues, stressing that his return to the APC was a voluntary and principled move.
