A family feud has escalated into a legal battle in Kano State after a man accused his father of selling his house while he was serving time in prison.

The case, which came before a Shari’a Court in Danbare, involved Muhammad Shaddadu, who claimed his father, Malam Shaddadu, sold his property without his consent, believing he would never return home.

Muhammad told the court that before his imprisonment, his father had bought two tricycles for his half-brothers. According to him, tragedy struck when one of them was killed by criminals who also made away with his tricycle.

He alleged that his father blamed him for the incident, which led to his wrongful arrest and detention. Muhammad said that although he was later acquitted, he returned home to find his house sold.

When the charges were read, Malam Shaddadu denied the allegations and pleaded not guilty.

Presiding Judge, Malam Munzali Idris Gwadabe, described the dispute as a private family matter and referred the case to the Court of Arbitration to allow both parties to pursue reconciliation.

The case highlights growing concerns over family property disputes and strained parent–child relationships in northern Nigeria.
