The Labour Party has unveiled its timetable for the 2027 primary elections, setting the stage for a crucial political showdown ahead of Nigeria’s general elections. The announcement came after a National Executive Council (NEC) meeting held on Tuesday, March 17, 2026, observed by the Independent National Electoral Commission.
The approved schedule includes:
NEC also confirmed the dates for Party Congresses and Conventions, including the Ward, Local Government, and State Congresses set for March 26, 28, and 31, 2026 respectively, and the National Convention on April 11, 2026. These processes aim to strengthen internal democracy and ensure orderly party administration.
Following reports of a recent breach at the Party Secretariat, NEC, guided by the Peace, Reconciliation, and Disciplinary Committee chaired by Comrade Salisu Mohammed, suspended 26 members over alleged anti-party conduct and involvement in the desecration of the National Secretariat. Among those suspended are prominent party figures including Eneyi G. Zidougha, Hilda Doukubo, Lincolin Charles, Muhammed Sabitu Aliyu, and Obiora Ifoh.
In addition, NEC approved a hybrid expansion of the Party’s membership database through both digital registration and manual enrollment in rural communities, an initiative designed to modernize records, enhance transparency, and boost participatory democracy, in line with the 2026 Electoral Act.
The Party also resolved to fill all leadership vacancies through interim appointments to maintain continuity in administration as it prepares for the 2027 elections.
