Labour Party Applauds INEC for Recognising Usman-Led Leadership at Consultative Meeting

The Labour Party (LP) has praised the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for inviting Senator Nenadi Usman, the party’s Interim National Chairman, to the commission’s first quarterly consultative meeting with political party leaders in Abuja on Thursday.

The invitation follows INEC’s compliance with a Federal High Court judgment delivered on January 21, 2026, which recognised Senator Usman and Senator Darlington Nwokocha as the legitimate Interim National Chairman and Secretary of the Labour Party.

Ken Eluma Asogwa, Senior Special Adviser (Media) to Usman, described the invitation as a strong endorsement of the party’s leadership. He commended INEC Chairman Prof. Joash Amupitan and the commission for their “steadfast adherence to the rule of law” and commitment to fairness and justice in Nigeria’s political process.

“The invitation affirms and accords full legitimacy to the current leadership of the Labour Party. This action underscores INEC’s dedication to transparency and the rule of law,” Asogwa said.

Reflecting on the party’s recent internal crisis, he expressed relief that the “protracted and torturous” chapter has now been laid to rest, and thanked supporters, media practitioners, and democracy advocates for their resilience and steadfast belief in the party.

The Labour Party reiterated its commitment to internal cohesion, democratic principles, and constructive engagement with stakeholders in advancing Nigeria’s democratic process.
