The Labour Party (LP) National Working Committee has announced the formation of a 19-member Interim State Working Committee to oversee the party’s affairs and spearhead its reconstruction in Rivers State.

The appointments were confirmed in a statement signed by the party’s National Chairman, Nenadi Usman, and National Secretary, Darlington Nwokocha.

Fredrick Nwoje was named Chairman, while Precious Nwogu, Godfrey Otamiri, Anthony Wachukwu, Nyeche Wodike, Lawyer Thompson, and Nwiwagbo Harry were appointed as Deputy Chairmen. Chioma Atandikiari will serve as Secretary, supported by Chinedu Christian Anele and Bright Odum as Assistant Secretaries.

Other members include Sampson Nwoka as Financial Secretary; Afoma Jonathan, Treasurer; Dr. Victor Tubo, Publicity Secretary; Onusaka Saineimi, Youth Leader; Bekenwari Bob-Manual, Women Leader; Akahaa Egonu, Deputy Women Leader; Ojukwu Christian, Auditor; Mills Orlu Orlu, Legal Adviser; and Ogoya Princewill, Organising Secretary.

The interim leadership is tasked with rebuilding and strengthening the Labour Party in Rivers State, ahead of upcoming political activities.

The appointments follow a Federal High Court ruling on January 21, 2026, which affirmed Nenadi Usman as the lawful leader of the party and directed the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to recognize her leadership. On January 30, 2026, INEC officially listed Usman as the caretaker national chairman on its website and reaffirmed the recognition last week.

However, the faction led by Julius Abure has rejected the court ruling and announced plans to appeal the judgment, leaving the party in Rivers State navigating internal tensions amid its rebuilding efforts.
