Lafarge Africa Plc has commissioned a cutting-edge ReadyMix facility in Lekki, Lagos, as part of its push to expand local manufacturing capacity and drive sustainable innovation in the construction sector.
The new site, known as the Freedom Plant, is equipped with a fully automated batching system capable of remote data transfer and real-time modifications, allowing management and operations to be controlled securely from anywhere in the world.
Lolu Alade-Akinyemi, Group Managing Director and CEO of Lafarge Africa, said the project reflects the company’s vision of combining innovation with sustainability.
“The launch of the Freedom Plant further increases and strengthens our commitment to ‘Building Progress for People and the Planet’. This facility is not just about production, but about expanding the frontiers of innovation and sustainability in our operations, meeting Nigeria’s growing demand locally, and empowering our people through job creation and skills development,” he said.
The facility integrates energy-efficient technologies, minimises emissions, and is designed to produce eco-friendly construction materials such as EcoCrete.
Derek Williamson, Head of Aggregates and ReadyMix at Lafarge Africa, described the plant as a key addition to the company’s network.
“This development complements our business extension strategy across the country. Currently, we have footprints in Abuja, Port Harcourt, and Lagos. With an increased capacity of three silos, the Freedom Plant will significantly boost production volumes, improve customer service, and ensure availability to meet Nigeria’s fast-growing demand,” Williamson noted.
Industry analysts say the launch strengthens Lafarge’s position in Nigeria’s competitive cement and ReadyMix market, while also aligning with global sustainability standards.
