Pastor Cornelius Ojelabi has been re-elected as Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Lagos State, securing a second term during the party’s state congress held on Tuesday.

The congress, which took place at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena in Lagos, saw more than 2,000 delegates from across the state endorse Ojelabi and other members of the State Executive Committee through a consensus arrangement.

Ojelabi’s return signals continuity in the leadership of the Lagos APC, widely regarded as a stronghold of the ruling party and the political base of President Bola Tinubu.

Other officials re-elected alongside Ojelabi include Deputy Chairman Moshood Mayegun, Secretary Dr Adeola Jokomba, and Publicity Secretary Oluseye Oladejo.

Also returned are Legal Adviser Folashade Bakare, Treasurer Abiodun Ayigbe, Financial Secretary Banjo Adedoyin-Wasiu, Organising Secretary Ayodele Adewale, and Youth Leader Seriki Muritala, among others.

The Chairman of the State Congress Committee, Stella Okotete, formally announced the consensus list, which was subsequently endorsed by delegates through a voice vote.

Describing Lagos as the “heartbeat of progressive politics” and the home state of President Tinubu, Okotete emphasized the importance of unity and adherence to party guidelines.

“This congress is not a contest of enemies. It is a contest of progressive family members united by ideology,” she said.

She stressed that the process must comply strictly with the APC constitution, noting that only duly registered members who met eligibility requirements were permitted to participate.

“Our mandate is clear — to ensure a peaceful, credible and orderly congress that reflects the unity and maturity of our great party,” Okotete added.

Strengthening the APC Structure in Lagos

Party leaders described the congress as a step toward consolidating the APC’s political structure in Lagos and reinforcing support for the party’s national agenda.

With Ojelabi’s re-election secured through consensus, the Lagos APC enters a new term focused on maintaining party cohesion and strengthening its dominance in Nigeria’s commercial capital ahead of future electoral contests.
