Lagos Lawmaker Visits Oworonshoki, Sympathises With Demolition Victims

A Lagos lawmaker has assured residents of Oworonshoki that they will receive justice and compensation following the recent demolition of properties in the area.

Hon. Sanni Ganiyu Babatunde Okanlawon, Chairman of the Lagos State House Committee on Local Government Administration, Chieftaincy Affairs and Rural Development, met with community leaders and victims during a stakeholders’ meeting at the palace of the Oloworo of Oworonshoki, Oba Babatunde Saliu, on Sunday.

The Kosofe Constituency I representative expressed sympathy to affected families, stressing that his “thoughts and prayers” were with those who lost their homes and livelihoods.

Government pledges compensation

Okanlawon disclosed that the Lagos State Government had promised to compensate residents, with part of the reclaimed land earmarked for redevelopment and reallocation to rightful owners.

He clarified that he had no prior involvement in the demolition process but pledged to work with relevant authorities to ensure transparency and fairness in resolving the matter.

‘I will continue to defend my people’

Reiterating his commitment to his constituents, the lawmaker said he would continue to defend their interests.
“I will always stand by you, especially in difficult times like this,” he assured residents.
