Lawyer Slams Obi Cubana, Cubana Chief Priest Over ‘City Boy’ Campaign, Family Relocation to UK

Criticism sparks debate on political endorsements and elite loyalty in Nigeria ahead of 2027 elections

A Nigerian lawyer, Chukwudi Iwuchukwu, has criticised nightlife entrepreneur Obi Cubana and Cubana Chief Priest for backing President Bola Tinubu’s 2027 re-election campaign while reportedly relocating their families abroad.

In a Facebook post on Thursday, Iwuchukwu alleged that Cubana moved his family to the United Kingdom three years ago, claiming he no longer believes in Nigeria’s prospects. He made similar assertions regarding Cubana Chief Priest.

Both businessmen are prominent supporters of the ‘City Boy Movement’, a pro-Tinubu campaign group. However, Iwuchukwu argued that their political activism clashes with their personal decisions to keep their families outside Nigeria.

“Obi Cubana relocated his family to the UK three years ago. To him, Nigeria is irredeemable and a carcass, this is why he uprooted his family and sent them away. He makes money here and then repatriates it to his family living in a sane country. The same applies to Cubana Chief Priest,” Iwuchukwu wrote.

He further accused them of promoting a government he described as “failed,” while urging young Nigerians to respond by boycotting businesses linked to the duo.

“It is also your right as a young person living in Nigeria to boycott their business and stop buying anything they are selling,” he added, encouraging citizens to “vote with their wallet.”

While Iwuchukwu acknowledged that Cubana and Chief Priest have the constitutional right to support any political candidate, his comments have reignited debates about the responsibilities and accountability of Nigeria’s elite in political discourse.
