Lagos, Nigeria – February 25, 2026
A mother and her son narrowly escaped death early Wednesday when their Lexus SUV overturned multiple times along the LASU–Isheri Expressway, authorities confirmed.
The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) reported that the vehicle, registered KJA 39 JT, was traveling from Isheri towards Igando when it suddenly lost stability, somersaulting three times amid peak-hour traffic near the NYSC Bus Stop.
LASTMA officers swiftly coordinated with the Nigeria Police Force, Igando Division, to rescue the occupants. Both victims were safely extricated from the badly damaged vehicle with minor bruises and mild shock. Family members later transported them to a medical facility for further evaluation.
“The quick response of LASTMA and LASEMA averted what could have been a fatal incident,” said Olalekan Bakare-Oki, LASTMA General Manager. He expressed relief that no lives were lost and reiterated the agency’s commitment to road safety and emergency response.
The wrecked vehicle was promptly removed to prevent secondary accidents and reduce congestion along the busy corridor servicing the Lagos State University area. Authorities handed the SUV over to the police for investigation and administrative procedures.
Bakare-Oki urged motorists to adhere to speed limits and conduct routine vehicle checks, particularly brakes, noting that excessive speed combined with mechanical faults remains a major contributor to severe expressway accidents.
