Nigerian singer Euphemia Ekumah, popularly known as GoodGirl LA, has revealed the emotional struggle and family rejection she faced while chasing her music dreams.

The ‘Early Momo’ hitmaker, in a candid interview with Hip TV, disclosed that her father disowned and evicted her after she refused to further her education, insisting instead on pursuing a career in music.

GoodGirl LA said her parents forced her to write the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) exam, even though she had no desire to attend university. She admitted regretting not following her passion earlier.

“I have never regretted not completing school. I wish I never went to school. I wish I left home earlier. That’s my only regret. I wish I never wrote JAMB. I wish I ran away when my dad was forcing me to write JAMB,” she said.

“When I told my parents that I wasn’t interested in going to school anymore, my dad asked me to leave his house. It was crazy. At one point, my dad even disowned me. Then, I left home.”

The singer, who described the experience as painful but transformative, said she gained clarity about her purpose around the age of 17 and finally took the bold step to follow her passion.

She revealed that her relationship with her family later improved after she gained recognition in the music industry, proving that her decision to pursue her dreams was worth it.

GoodGirl LA has since become one of Nigeria’s most soulful female voices, known for her unique sound, authenticity, and resilience.
