NAFDAC Seals 18 Niger Warehouses Over Expired Food Products Worth N100 Million

The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has shut down 18 warehouses across Niger State after discovering expired consumables valued at over ₦100 million.

The operation, part of NAFDAC’s nationwide crackdown on substandard and expired products, uncovered warehouses allegedly storing and distributing food items past their expiry dates to unsuspecting consumers.

Repackaging of Expired Goods Raises Public Health Alarm

Officials warned that some of the products had been repackaged or relabelled to conceal their expiration, posing a serious risk to public health. The agency described the discovery as a significant threat to consumer safety and reiterated its zero-tolerance stance on such violations.

“The warehouses have been sealed, and investigations are ongoing to identify those responsible. Individuals found culpable will face strict legal action under existing regulations,” a NAFDAC spokesperson said.

NAFDAC urged Nigerians to remain vigilant by checking product expiry dates before purchase and reporting suspicious goods to the authorities, emphasizing the agency’s ongoing commitment to protecting public health.
