Rapper and singer Naira Marley has sparked fresh controversy with a claim that most Nigerian artists are involved in cultism.
The controversial musician, whose real name is Azeez Fashola, made the assertion on his X account on Thursday, suggesting that only a small number of entertainers, including himself, have not joined secret cult groups.
Marley’s post implied that many artists seek membership for protection and influence within the industry, but he argued that even those who recruit others still rely on police escorts for security.
“We no reach 5 weh never join cult for this [music] industry. Person weh put u for cult self dey carry police escort up and down,” he wrote.
The statement has renewed public debate over the relationship between the music industry and cultism, a recurring issue in Nigeria’s entertainment sector.
Naira Marley has previously denied being a cult member, saying he was once threatened by cultists after refusing to join their group.
His latest claim comes amid ongoing concerns about violence and security in the Nigerian music industry, where cult-related activities have been blamed for rivalries and attacks involving performers and their teams.
