NAPTIP Launches Probe Into Alleged Child Abuse at Singer Simi’s Mother’s Daycare

The National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) has confirmed it will investigate allegations of child sexual abuse at a daycare centre owned by the mother of Nigerian singer Simi.

The probe follows a surge of online attention after a TikTok user, Mirabel, accused the daycare of sexual misconduct. The allegations reignited public debate after old social media posts by Simi resurfaced, with some users claiming her tweets hinted at inappropriate intent, though the singer’s comments were originally about raising awareness on sexual assault in Nigeria.

Simi had previously highlighted the widespread nature of sexual assault, suggesting harsh penalties for perpetrators. Her posts sparked online discussions with varying opinions.

Responding to the allegations, NAPTIP emphasized its commitment to investigating every credible report of child sexual abuse. In an official statement on X, the agency urged anyone with concrete information, evidence, or personal experience to report confidentially via direct message or email at info@naptip.gov.ng.

“Every credible claim of child sexual abuse will be thoroughly investigated,” NAPTIP said. “We encourage victims and witnesses to come forward to ensure justice is served.”

The development comes amid growing calls from Nigerians for stronger protections for children and more accountability from institutions tasked with safeguarding minors.
