NAPTIP Launches Probe into Viral Benue School Bullying Video

Nigeria’s anti-trafficking agency, National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons, has opened an investigation into a viral video showing a disturbing incident involving schoolgirls in Benue State.

The agency confirmed on Monday that it has directed its state command to take immediate action following widespread outrage over the footage circulating online.

“This is indeed a sad development. The case has been forwarded to our Benue State Command, which has been directed to immediately liaise with relevant agencies in the state to ensure swift and appropriate action,” NAPTIP said in a statement shared on its official X account.

Public Outrage Triggers Swift Response

The video, which surfaced earlier in the day, sparked intense reactions on social media, with many calling for accountability and stronger measures to protect students.

The footage shows a group of students in school uniforms harassing a fellow student, who appears distressed as the incident unfolds. Authorities have not yet released further details about those involved.

Focus on Protection and Accountability

NAPTIP’s intervention highlights growing concerns over bullying and abuse in schools, as well as the role of social media in amplifying such incidents.

The agency said it would work with relevant stakeholders to ensure the matter is thoroughly investigated and that appropriate steps are taken.

Further updates are expected as authorities continue inquiries into the case.
