The National Assembly has postponed the resumption of its plenary sessions, moving the date from September 23 to October 7, 2025.
Lawmakers in both chambers received official notices on Monday confirming the shift. While no reason was given for the delay, senior officials apologised for the inconvenience and urged legislators to adjust their schedules.
In a memo to senators, Chinedu Akubueze, Chief of Staff to the Senate President, wrote:
“This is to respectfully inform distinguished senators that the resumption of plenary sitting of the Senate, earlier scheduled for Tuesday, 23rd September, 2025, has been shifted to Tuesday, 7th October, 2025. Any inconvenience this short notice may cause is deeply regretted.”
Similarly, members of the House of Representatives were informed in an internal memorandum signed by Clerk of the House, Yahaya Danzaria, on September 22.
“With deep regrets, honourable members are hereby informed that the resumption of plenary sessions earlier scheduled for Tuesday, September 23, 2025, has been rescheduled. The new date of resumption is Tuesday, October 7, 2025. Kindly take note and make the necessary adjustments to your schedules accordingly.”
The development means the National Assembly will remain on recess for two additional weeks, extending a legislative break that has already sparked speculation about internal parliamentary dynamics.
