Nigeria Customs to Auction Over 14,000 Litres of Seized Petrol in Cross River

The Nigeria Customs Service has announced plans to auction more than 14,000 litres of confiscated petrol in Cross River as part of intensified efforts to curb fuel smuggling and ensure proper utilisation of the seized products.

Crackdown on Petrol Smuggling

Customs officials confirmed that the petrol was intercepted during a series of anti-smuggling operations along major border routes, long notorious for illegal petroleum trafficking. The seizures aim to protect the nation’s economy by preventing the diversion of subsidised fuel to neighbouring countries.

“The decision to auction the petrol follows standard procedures, allowing the public to purchase the products at regulated prices while discouraging further smuggling activities,” the NCS stated.

The agency reaffirmed its commitment to cracking down on economic sabotage, particularly in border communities, and warned that smugglers would face the full weight of the law.
