Nigerian Army Airstrike Kills 11 Terrorists, Foils Planned Attack in Sokoto

A coordinated military airstrike has killed at least 11 terrorists in Sokoto State, disrupting a planned attack and dealing a major blow to armed groups operating across the North West, the Nigerian Army has said.

The operation, carried out by troops under Operation Farsan Yamma Strike, targeted terrorist elements near Kurawa Village in Sabon Birni Local Government Area. According to a statement released on the Army’s official Facebook page, the strike team acted on “precise and credible intelligence” indicating a planned assault on Tara Village, a route frequently exploited by bandits and terror cells.

Troops executed a carefully planned ambush that triggered a sustained firefight, leaving 11 terrorists dead while others escaped with gunshot wounds.

Weapons recovered from the scene included eight AK-47 rifles, five spare magazines and 26 rounds of 7.62mm ammunition — items the Army described as tools frequently used in recent attacks across the region.

The military says the operation forms part of ongoing efforts to degrade criminal networks that have terrorised communities in Sokoto and neighbouring states.
