Nigerian Army Rescues Kidnapped Man in Taraba, Pledges Swift Action Against Kidnappers

The Nigerian Army has successfully rescued a man abducted in Taraba State, following intensive search-and-rescue operations in the region. The operation highlights the military’s ongoing efforts to curb kidnapping and restore security across vulnerable communities.

Brigadier-General Kingsley Chidiebere Uwa, commander of the 6 Brigade Nigerian Army/Sector 3, Operation Whirl Stroke (OPWS), confirmed the rescue in a statement on Wednesday from Jalingo. He called on the public to continue providing credible intelligence to assist military operations.

Troops deployed to Dogon-Gawa in Takum Local Government Area recovered the victim, identified as Mr. Ghali, after he was found abandoned in the bush by his captors on January 27, 2026.

Investigations revealed that Mr. Ghali and another man, Mr. Simon Oluchukwu, were kidnapped on January 11, 2026, at Gbise Village, Mbayonga in neighboring Benue State. Reports indicate that their driver was killed during the attack.

Following the rescue, Mr. Ghali received medical attention, underwent debriefing, and was safely reunited with his family. Brig.-Gen. Uwa praised the troops for their courage, professionalism, and dedication to protecting lives.

“The Brigade remains resolute in its determination to rid the area of criminal elements and restore lasting peace within the region,” the commander said, adding that operations would be intensified to secure the release of the second victim and apprehend those responsible.

The successful mission underscores the Nigerian Army’s commitment to safeguarding citizens and maintaining law and order in high-risk areas.
