Nigerian DJ Association Bans Burna Boy Songs After Alleged Attack on DJ Tunez

Nigeria’s music scene has been thrown into controversy after the Nigerian DJ Association (NDJ) announced a sweeping ban on all songs by Burna Boy following an alleged assault involving DJ Tunez.

The decision comes after a viral incident at Obi’s House, a popular weekly Afrobeats event in Lagos, where DJ Tunez was reportedly attacked by Burna Boy and members of his team.

Videos circulating online show the DJ being physically assaulted during the event, sparking outrage and intense debate across social media. Reports suggest the altercation was triggered after DJ Tunez played songs by Wizkid instead of Burna Boy’s tracks.

In a statement shared on Instagram, the NDJ confirmed that all Burna Boy songs have been temporarily removed from DJs’ playlists nationwide, pending the outcome of an internal investigation.

“Burna Boy music is temporarily out of any of our DJs’ playlists till further notice,” the association said, adding that it would thoroughly review the circumstances surrounding the incident.

The group also condemned hostility within the music industry and urged DJs across Nigeria to remain professional and respectful toward all artists during events.

The move marks a rare and significant stance by DJs, who play a central role in shaping music consumption and artist visibility. Industry observers say the ban could have immediate implications for Burna Boy’s airplay and club presence if widely enforced.

As reactions continue to pour in, attention is now turning to the outcome of the NDJ’s investigation and whether the ban will be lifted — or escalate tensions within Nigeria’s Afrobeats community.
