Security forces praised for rapid response after early-morning gunmen assault in Ankpali village
Nigerian Army operatives, working alongside police units, successfully repelled a bandit attack on Ankpali village in Apa Local Government Area, Benue State, in the early hours of Wednesday.
Security sources said the first emergency alert arrived around 2:45 am, reporting that gunmen had invaded the community and were targeting residents. Reinforcements from the Nigerian Army and the 80 Police Mobile Force (PMF) unit were immediately dispatched to the area.
A fierce exchange of gunfire ensued, forcing the attackers to retreat. One of the assailants was neutralised during the confrontation, and his remains were later taken to the mortuary. Authorities are continuing efforts to track and arrest the fleeing suspects linked to the incident.
Residents of Ankpali lauded the swift intervention of security operatives, saying the prompt action helped prevent significant loss of lives and property.
The incident highlights the ongoing security challenges in parts of Benue State, where communities have faced repeated attacks by armed groups.
