Nigeria’s National Grid Collapses Again, FCT Plunged Into Blackout

Nigeria’s fragile power system suffered yet another collapse on Wednesday, leaving the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) and several parts of the country in total blackout.

The Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC) confirmed the outage in a public notice, disclosing that supply from the national grid was lost at 11:23 a.m.

“Please be informed that the power outage currently being experienced is due to a loss of supply from the national grid at 11:23 am today, affecting electricity supply across our franchise areas,” the notice read.

AEDC assured customers that efforts were underway with the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) and other stakeholders to restore supply once the grid is stabilised.

The latest system collapse adds to a long history of grid failures that have repeatedly thrown Africa’s largest economy into darkness, undermining business operations and worsening living conditions for millions.

Industry experts have long warned that without urgent investment in transmission infrastructure and effective reforms, Nigeria’s electricity crisis will continue to deepen.
