The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has warned of heavy rain and thunderstorms expected across much of the country between Monday and Wednesday.
According to its weather outlook released on Sunday in Abuja, several regions will experience a mix of cloudy conditions, sunshine breaks, and intense thunderstorms, raising concerns over potential flooding in some areas.
NiMet forecast isolated thunderstorms and light rainfall on Monday morning in parts of Adamawa and Taraba. Later in the day, storms are expected to spread to Kaduna, Gombe, Kebbi, Zamfara, Bauchi, Southern Borno, and additional areas of Adamawa and Taraba.
Residents in the central states, including the Federal Capital Territory, should prepare for thunderstorms with light rain over Nasarawa and Niger during the morning hours. By afternoon and evening, most of the region is expected to be hit by isolated thunderstorms with moderate rainfall.
The forecast for the south indicates cloudy skies with sunshine intervals in the morning, alongside light rainfall and thunderstorms in Ebonyi, Abia, Imo, Lagos, Delta, Bayelsa, Rivers, Cross River, and Akwa Ibom. More widespread thunderstorms with heavier rain are predicted later in the day.
NiMet cautioned that the weather pattern would persist for three consecutive days, advising residents in flood-prone areas to remain vigilant and take necessary precautions.
