Kano, Nigeria – The New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) has strongly criticised the arrest of one of its members, Aiha K. Nass, in Kano State, describing the move as unacceptable and politically troubling.
Speaking at the party’s state headquarters, NNPP Publicity Secretary Engr. Ibrahim Karaye accused security agencies of acting in a manner inconsistent with democratic principles.
He urged law enforcement bodies to remain neutral, warning against actions that could undermine confidence in Nigeria’s democratic system.
“Finally, the party calls on all to remain calm, law-abiding, and adhere to the rules of the game,” the statement said.
Karaye called for the immediate release of Aiha K. Nass, arguing that every Nigerian citizen is entitled to freedom of speech and association under the law.
The party also appealed to the Kano State Government to uphold democratic values, stressing that the legitimacy of any government rests on respect for constitutional principles.
In its statement, the NNPP cautioned security agencies against what it described as biased actions, insisting that democratic governance requires fairness and impartiality.
Despite its criticism, the party urged its members and supporters to remain peaceful while the matter is being addressed.
The development adds to ongoing political tensions in Kano, one of Nigeria’s most politically influential states.
