Thirteen lawmakers of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) in the House of Representatives have dismissed claims that they plan to abandon their party for other political platforms, pledging continued allegiance to the Kwankwasiya Movement in Kano State.

The lawmakers, speaking at a press conference in Abuja on Thursday, were led by Hon. Garba Diso. Their statement comes shortly after two NNPP members from Kano, Hon. Abdulmumin Jibrin and Hon. Sagir Koki, officially defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC) during a House plenary.

Diso described the defection rumours as “false and malicious” and urged the public and supporters to disregard them.

“We wish to categorically debunk these unfounded rumours and urge the general public, our supporters, and well-meaning Nigerians to disregard such misleading claims,” he said, adding that those spreading the stories are political detractors threatened by the NNPP’s growing influence.

He emphasized that interactions with members of other parties should not be interpreted as disloyalty. “Our engagements with members of other political parties reflect our commitment to bipartisan cooperation aimed at advancing good governance, national unity, and progress for all Nigerians,” Diso said.

Reaffirming their dedication, the lawmakers pledged to uphold the ideals of the NNPP and the Kwankwasiya Movement, including justice, equity, inclusiveness, and people-centered governance.

“We stand firm, united, and loyal to the NNPP, to the Kwankwasiya Movement, and to the people we serve,” Diso stated.

The declaration underscores the NNPP’s resolve to maintain party unity in Kano amid rising political maneuvering ahead of the 2027 elections.
