Veteran Nollywood actor Yemi Solade has sparked debate after declaring that no Nigerian actress can afford a Mercedes-Benz G-Class, popularly known as a G-Wagon, solely from acting earnings.
Speaking on the Honest Bunch podcast, the 64-year-old actor argued that the film industry does not generate the kind of income that could sustain such luxury purchases.
“It is possible from producing but not from acting, except they have side hustles. Because how much are they going to pay you for acting, ₦50 million?” Solade asked.
He added that while some actresses flaunt G-Wagons, many of the vehicles are likely either gifts or funded through alternative income streams.
“Then again, some are gifts, I want to believe so. Yes now, dem fit gift person G-Wagon,” he said.
Solade’s remarks highlight the long-running conversation about Nollywood’s pay structure, financial transparency, and the lifestyles of its stars.
The actor recently made headlines after stating that his life improved when he stopped attending church—another comment that stirred reactions among fans and critics alike.
