Governors from Nigeria’s 19 northern states have gathered in Kaduna to address escalating insecurity, including kidnappings, banditry, and other violent crimes plaguing the region.

The emergency meeting, held on Monday at the Sir Kashim Ibrahim Government House, brings together state leaders and traditional rulers to formulate urgent strategies to restore peace and security across Northern Nigeria.

Key governors present include Uba Sani (Kaduna), Abubakar Sani Bago (Niger), Inuwa Yahaya (Gombe), Umar Namadi (Jigawa), Dauda Lawal (Zamfara), Mai Mala Buni (Yobe), Nasir Idris (Kebbi), Ahmadu Fintiri (Adamawa), and Abdullahi Sule (Nasarawa), with other states represented by their deputies.

The meeting also features influential traditional rulers, most notably the Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Saad Abubakar III, underscoring the importance of community engagement in addressing security challenges.

The summit aims to coordinate a multi-pronged approach to counter banditry, kidnappings, and violent criminal networks, which have intensified in recent months. Discussions are expected to include improved intelligence-sharing, community policing, and strategies to enhance collaboration between state security forces and local communities.

Northern Nigeria has witnessed a spike in violent incidents in recent weeks, prompting calls from residents and stakeholders for immediate and effective action to restore public safety.

Officials are expected to issue a communique outlining actionable steps following the summit, signaling a unified front against insecurity in the region.
