The Northern Youth Frontiers (NYF) has declared President Bola Ahmed Tinubu as the preferred candidate for the 2027 presidential election in Northern Nigeria. The group cited continuity of reforms, national unity, and adherence to Nigeria’s zoning and power rotation principle as key reasons for their support.
In a statement signed by NYF Chairman Sama Musa, the group described Tinubu’s administration as pivotal to stability, inclusiveness, and progressive governance since Nigeria’s return to democratic rule in 1999. Musa emphasised that Nigeria’s zoning and rotation arrangement has been instrumental in ensuring equity, representation, and harmony across the country’s diverse regions.
“Since the inception of our democratic journey in 1999, the rotation system has emerged as a cornerstone of our democracy. It has provided a platform for equitable power distribution and served as a bulwark against potential discord among the nation’s diverse groups,” Musa said.
The NYF also highlighted Tinubu’s achievements in infrastructure, education, and security in Northern Nigeria, arguing that these reforms have laid a foundation for sustainable development. The group stressed that a second term for Tinubu would consolidate and expand these gains, ensuring continuity in the administration’s transformative agenda.
Musa linked Tinubu’s leadership to national unity, noting that his administration has fostered dialogue, inclusivity, and a shared national identity. “The President’s commitment to promoting dialogue and bridging divides has made unity a tangible reality, achieved through concerted efforts and shared vision,” he said.
The statement further referenced recent political developments in the North, including the defection of Kano State Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf from the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) to the APC, which Musa described as indicative of potential Northern voting patterns in the 2027 elections.
Calling on Northern youths and stakeholders, NYF urged grassroots mobilisation in support of Tinubu’s re-election through community engagement, town hall meetings, and political advocacy. Musa concluded that backing Tinubu goes beyond partisan politics, representing a commitment to continuity, unity, and democratic values.
“By voting for continuity, we are not merely endorsing a candidate; we are championing a vision for a Nigeria that thrives on unity, progress, and democratic values. Let us stand together, as one North, for a brighter tomorrow,” he said.
