NSCDC Arrests Scrap Dealer Over Alleged Power Cable Vandalism in Jigawa

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has arrested a 50-year-old scrap dealer in Jigawa State over the alleged possession of vandalised electrical cables, authorities said.

Officials from the state command apprehended the suspect in Maruwa, Kafin Hausa LGA, Jigawa State, Nigeria, where he was reportedly found with about 267 metres of aluminium cable estimated to be worth roughly ₦573,300.

The arrest was confirmed in a statement issued on Monday by the command’s spokesperson, ASC Badruddeen Tijjani Mahmud.

Investigation points to fleeing accomplices

According to the NSCDC, preliminary investigations suggest that the cables were brought to the suspect’s home by two individuals identified as Sani and Auwalu, both said to be from Ruba village, Kafin Hausa LGA, Jigawa State, Nigeria.

Authorities say the two men are currently on the run.

The arrested suspect remains in custody while security operatives intensify efforts to track down the fleeing accomplices and recover additional stolen infrastructure if any.

Crackdown on infrastructure vandalism

The Jigawa State Commandant of the NSCDC warned individuals involved in vandalising public infrastructure to abandon such activities or face prosecution.

He also urged residents to stay vigilant and promptly alert security agencies about suspicious activities around power installations and other public assets.

The agency reaffirmed its commitment to safeguarding critical national infrastructure, stressing that protecting power installations and other public facilities remains a key priority for the command.
