Obasanjo Endorses ‘Omimi Wonder Garri’ and Fish Powder as Game-Changer for Nigeria’s Food Security

Former President Olusegun Obasanjo has thrown his weight behind two fortified Nigerian-made food products — ‘Omimi Wonder Garri’ and Fish Powder — hailing them as innovations that could combat hunger, malnutrition, and food insecurity across the country and continent.

The endorsement came during a presentation at the Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library in Abeokuta, Ogun State, where Obasanjo described the products as “life-saving innovations that can nourish the nation, strengthen our people, and support our fight against hunger and insecurity.”

Developed by Nigerian monarch and food entrepreneur HRH Eze (Dr.) Emma Saint George Ekeh through Omimi4U Farms Ltd, Omimi Wonder Garri is a fortified cassava-based superfood containing 32 grams of protein per 100 grams, along with 35 essential vitamins and minerals. According to its makers, the product supports immune function, mental sharpness, blood sugar regulation, and overall vitality, offering a nutrient-dense solution suitable for all age groups.

Obasanjo emphasized the potential of the fortified garri to address pressing nutritional challenges, particularly among vulnerable populations. “This is food for the future, made in Nigeria, for Nigerians. With it, we can nourish our defenders, rebuild displaced communities, and raise a healthier generation,” he said.

The initiative comes as Nigeria faces one of the highest malnutrition rates in Africa, with millions of children under five affected by stunted growth and micronutrient deficiencies. Insecurity, including terrorism, banditry, and communal conflicts, has further disrupted farming and food supply chains, increasing the urgency for affordable, nutrient-rich foods.

Already gaining international attention, Omimi Wonder Garri is being sold in The Gambia, including at the country’s only IVF hospital, where it is noted for fertility enhancement and wellness benefits.

Eze Ekeh highlighted the broader vision for the products: transforming African crops into globally recognized nutrition solutions to bridge dietary gaps and strengthen national resilience.

Obasanjo concluded by urging government ministries, humanitarian agencies, and investors to adopt Omimi Wonder Garri and Fish Powder in military rations, IDP camps, and school nutrition programs, framing them as vital tools to bolster health, security, and productivity.
