Commissioner orders probe after influencer filmed suspects in custody and shared online
The Ondo State Commissioner of Police, Adebowale Lawal, has ordered the immediate redeployment of the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Enu-Owa Division, Ondo West Local Government Area, following a viral video featuring social media influencer Adefolarin Ayomiposi, popularly known as Mandykiss.
The move comes after a video surfaced online showing Mandykiss recording and photographing suspects inside the police station — conduct the command described as “unprofessional and unacceptable.”
Police spokesperson DSP Olushola Ayanlade, in a statement on Tuesday, said the CP’s decision followed an internal review into the handling of a case involving alleged cyberbullying.
According to the police report, Mandykiss allegedly acted on tips from her followers to locate two suspects — Mrs Akinwole Sabitu and Miss Akinwole Oyindamola — whom she accused of online harassment.
She reportedly arrested the suspects with help from her fans and recorded a video while conveying them to the police station. Upon arrival, she handed them over to officers but went on to take photos and post them on her social media platforms.
The CP said preliminary findings confirmed that no police personnel accompanied Mandykiss during the arrest. “This sequence of events demonstrated a clear lapse in supervisory responsibility and professional judgment on the part of the DPO,” the statement read.
CP Lawal condemned the incident, stressing that recording or photographing suspects in custody violates police ethics and the legal principle of presumption of innocence until proven guilty.
He reiterated that the command would not tolerate any conduct capable of undermining public confidence in the Nigeria Police Force.
“Officers must remain professional, impartial, and ensure that the rights of both suspects and complainants are protected in strict accordance with the law,” he added.
The CP has directed a full review of the incident and emphasized that disciplinary action would follow if further breaches are uncovered.
