Troops of Operation FANSAN YANMA, working alongside police officers and local vigilante groups, have foiled a bandits’ attack in Matazu Local Government Area of Katsina State.
Security sources said the gunmen stormed Yar Makera Quarters around 9:50 p.m. on Thursday, but were swiftly engaged by security forces in a gun battle that forced them to retreat.
Despite the successful operation, tragedy struck when Aliyu Hassan, a 70-year-old resident, was killed. Another victim, 35-year-old Mustapha Ado, sustained gunshot wounds and is currently receiving medical treatment.
Troops have since launched a search of surrounding areas to track down the fleeing attackers and restore calm.
The latest incident underscores the persistent threat of armed banditry in Katsina, one of the hardest-hit states in Nigeria’s northwest, despite ongoing joint military and police operations.
