Osun 2026: Seven APC Governorship Aspirants Step Down After Crucial Meeting With President Tinubu

A major realignment has taken place within the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Osun State, as seven governorship aspirants have withdrawn from the race after a closed-door meeting with President Bola Tinubu at the Presidential Villa on Wednesday.

The aspirants agreed to back Bola Oyebamiji as the party’s consensus candidate ahead of the forthcoming primary election.

Wednesday’s meeting was convened by President Tinubu as part of efforts to halt internal tensions and present a united front before the party heads into the 2026 governorship contest. However, one aspirant, Iyiola Omisore, refused to attend. He had earlier dismissed his disqualification from the primary as “a joke.”

Those who stepped down include former Deputy Governor Benedict Olugboyega Alabi, Dotun Babayemi, Akin Ogunbiyi, Senator Babajide Omoworare, Kunle Adegoke, Babatunde Haketer Oralusi and Mulikat Abiola Jimoh.

The development marks a significant consolidation within the Osun APC as it prepares for a decisive political battle in the coming months.
