A fresh push to reclaim power in Oyo State is gathering momentum as governorship aspirants under the All Progressives Congress (APC) have pledged to unseat the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the 2027 elections.

The commitment was made during a strategic meeting held in Ibadan on Tuesday, where key party figures converged to chart a united path forward. The meeting was facilitated by former First Lady of the state, Florence Ajimobi, signaling renewed efforts to consolidate the party’s strength.

Among those present were prominent aspirants, including Senator Sharafadeen Alli, Minister of Power Adebayo Adelabu, former Senate Leader Teslim Folarin, and Senator Abdulfatai Buhari, who represents Oyo North. Other party stakeholders such as Aderemi Oseni and Barrister Akeem Agbaje also attended.

Sources at the meeting disclosed that discussions focused on fostering unity among aspirants and party leaders, with a shared understanding that internal cohesion would be critical to achieving electoral victory.

“There was a meeting of gubernatorial aspirants on the platform of APC. It was attended by the former first lady and other stakeholders. They resolved to work together in order to dislodge PDP in 2027,” a source familiar with the deliberations said.

The gathering comes amid ongoing efforts by the APC to reposition itself ahead of the next electoral cycle, following previous setbacks in the state. Analysts say the party’s ability to manage internal rivalries and present a united front could determine its chances against the PDP.

With early alignments already taking shape, the road to 2027 in Oyo State appears to be gathering pace, setting the stage for what could be a fiercely contested political battle.
