Oyo Court Extends Interim Order Allowing PDP National Convention

An Oyo State High Court in Ibadan has extended its interim order protecting the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) from any interference with its planned National Convention, scheduled for November 15 and 16, 2025.

The extension, granted by Justice Ladiran Akintola, will remain in effect until Friday, when the substantive case will continue. The judge upheld the previous ex-parte injunction filed by the claimant, maintaining that it would subsist pending the court’s final determination of the matter.

During proceedings, an application for joinder filed by another party was rejected because the affidavit submitted was unsigned. The court allowed the party to refile the application properly. Counsel for the defendant, Emmanuel Ukala, SAN, argued that the missing signature did not invalidate the application, but Justice Akintola held that the document could not be entertained in its current form.

Following the ruling, counsel to the claimant, Musibau Adetunmbi, SAN, explained that the court’s decision was procedural and that the party seeking joinder could resubmit its application correctly.

The court’s extension ensures the PDP convention proceeds without legal impediment until the next hearing on Friday.
