Cross-party support grows as former PDP and APC members rally behind Ukwa-East Governor
Ukwa-East, Abia State – Former Senate President and PDP Board of Trustees Chairman, Adolphus Wabara, has endorsed Governor Alex Otti of the Labour Party (LP) for a second term in office, signaling a major cross-party alignment ahead of the 2027 Abia governorship election.
The endorsement came on Thursday during the foundation laying ceremony of Ukwa-East General Hospital, where Wabara, alongside other opposition figures, formally declared support for Otti’s re-election bid. The motion was seconded by Louis Obianyi, a serving member of the Abia State House of Assembly.
Wabara emphasized that backing Otti transcends party lines, citing the governor’s development initiatives in Ukwa-East and across Abia State as reasons for their support.
Joining the endorsement, former Ohanaeze Ndigbo Secretary-General, Okey Emuchay, and local leaders appealed to Otti to revive the Abia Palm Company, highlighting its potential to generate employment and boost the local economy.
Governor Otti, while flagging off the hospital project, reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to delivering quality and accessible healthcare to all communities in Abia State.
The event also saw former PDP and APC members defecting to the Labour Party, receiving a warm reception from the people of Ukwa-East. Analysts view these defections and endorsements as a strategic consolidation of support ahead of the 2027 elections, signaling growing confidence in Otti’s governance and the Labour Party’s influence in the region.
