PDP Crisis Deepens as Acting Chairman Damagum Says ‘Devil’ Using Members to Destabilise Party

The acting National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Umar Damagum, has accused some party members of allowing the “devil” to use them to fuel internal crisis within the opposition party.

Damagum made the remark during a meeting with PDP state chairmen in Abuja on Thursday. The delegation, led by Tony Aziegbemi of Edo State and Edward Masha of Kaduna State, visited the chairman to express their support and loyalty to his leadership amid ongoing tensions in the party.

Speaking emotionally, Damagum warned that betrayal and internal sabotage would not go unpunished, stressing that the law of karma eventually catches up with everyone.

“I want to call on our colleagues that the devil is using to see wisdom in casting out the devil in them,” he said. “Treachery, especially to an institution that made you who you are today, will not heal. You may be lucky now, but there is a law of karma — what goes around comes around.”

He added that his decision to remain calm in the face of internal attacks should not be mistaken for weakness, saying he chooses to act according to divine guidance.

“Sometimes when I resort to the ways of God, people think it is weakness,” Damagum continued. “We exist because God exists, and He will judge us by our behaviour. A word is enough for the wise.”

The PDP has been grappling with internal wrangling over leadership legitimacy and alignment ahead of upcoming elections. Damagum’s comments appear to be a subtle response to factions within the party pushing for his removal.
