Why PDP Suspended National Secretary Anyanwu, Three Others After Court Stopped Convention

The crisis within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) deepened on Saturday as the party’s National Working Committee (NWC) suspended four key national officers, including its National Secretary, Senator Samuel Anyanwu.

The suspension, which also affected the National Legal Adviser, Kamaldeen Ajibade (SAN); Deputy Legal Adviser, Okechukwu Osuoha; and National Organising Secretary, Umaru Bature, followed a court order restraining the party from holding its planned national convention.

National Publicity Secretary, Debo Ologunagba, announced the decision after an emergency NWC meeting held at the party’s Legacy House headquarters in Abuja.

According to Ologunagba, the action was taken “in line with the provisions of the PDP Constitution” and the affected officers have been referred to the party’s Disciplinary Committee for further action.

“The NWC, in line with the party’s constitution, came to the following conclusion: the National Legal Adviser, Kamaldeen Ajibade, SAN; Deputy Legal Adviser, Okechukwu Osuoha; National Secretary, Senator Samuel Anyanwu; and National Organizing Secretary have been suspended for one month and referred to the PDP Disciplinary Committee,” Ologunagba stated.

The suspension comes amid growing internal tensions and legal battles over the control of the party’s structures ahead of key political events.

More details are expected to emerge as the PDP navigates what appears to be another test of its internal unity.
