The Plateau State chapter of the All Progressives Congress has reaffirmed Hon. Rufus Bature as its State Chairman following Tuesday’s State Congress in Jos. The event, described by stakeholders as historic, drew top government officials and party delegates from across the state.

Unity and Grassroots Mobilization

Governor Caleb Mutfwang, Deputy Governor Josephine Piyo, members of the National Assembly, the Speaker and lawmakers of the Plateau State House of Assembly, local government chairmen, elders, and accredited delegates attended the congress alongside observers from Independent National Electoral Commission.

Chairman of the State Congress Committee, Hon. Oscar Yelwa, praised party members for embracing consensus and democratic engagement, noting that the congress formally ushered in a new executive to steer the APC’s affairs in Plateau.

Bature, in his acceptance speech, committed to repositioning the party for a stronger showing ahead of the 2027 general elections. He highlighted his extensive service under three administrations—former Governors Joshua Dariye, Senator Simon Lalong, and Governor Mutfwang—and stressed that failure was not an option.

“Emerging as party chairman is a huge responsibility. We will uphold the ideals of the APC and meet the expectations of the Plateau people,” Bature said.

Governor Mutfwang described the congress as a historic milestone for the party, urging members to remain united. He emphasized the importance of grassroots mobilization, directing every registered APC member in the state to recruit at least 10 new members ahead of the elections.
