The recent attacks in Angwan Rukuba, Gari Yawaye community, Jos North Local Government Area of Plateau State, have claimed the lives of at least four Muslims, with ten more still missing, according to the Plateau State chapter of Jama’atu Nasril Islam (JNI).
The violence on Sunday night left over 30 people dead and many others injured, previously reported as primarily affecting Christian residents. JNI’s investigation now confirms that the Muslim population was also targeted, challenging earlier narratives of sectarian specificity.
JNI Secretary Salim Umar disclosed that bodies of some victims were identified at the Jos University Teaching Hospital (JUTH), while the missing remain unaccounted for, leaving families searching for answers.
“Following thorough investigation and reports from Muslim communities, we have discovered that four Muslims were killed while ten are still missing,” Umar stated.
Two injured individuals are receiving treatment at JUTH, with JNI maintaining contact with the families of victims, offering condolences and support.
Umar urged the public to remain calm, while acknowledging the efforts of the Plateau State government and security agencies in controlling the situation.
“We condole with the parents of all the victims who lost their loved ones and call on the public to remain calm. We appreciate the efforts of the state government and the security agencies for controlling the situation,” he said.
The attack has heightened tensions in Plateau State, where recurring communal violence continues to threaten peace. Authorities are under pressure to protect residents and locate the missing persons as investigations continue.
