Plateau Governor Caleb Muftwang Defects to APC Amid PDP Turmoil

Governor joins ruling party, citing chaos in opposition and alignment with President Tinubu’s governance vision

The All Progressives Congress (APC) officially welcomed Plateau State Governor, Caleb Muftwang, into its ranks on Monday, marking a significant political shift in the North-Central region.

The reception event was held in Jos, the state capital, with party officials and supporters in attendance.

Muftwang’s Political Adviser, Istifanus Nwansat, explained that the governor’s defection was influenced by ongoing turmoil within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), which has made the platform unstable for political actors aiming to contest elections.

“Nwansat emphasized that the move also positions Governor Muftwang in alignment with President Bola Tinubu’s political and governance trajectory in Plateau State,” the adviser said.

The governor’s switch to APC underscores growing defections from the PDP, reflecting widening divisions and uncertainties within the opposition as Nigeria approaches the next electoral cycle.

Political analysts say Muftwang’s move could strengthen the APC’s presence in Plateau, while sending a clear signal of confidence in the current federal administration’s direction.
