Troops of the Joint Task Force, Operation Enduring Peace (JTF-OPEP) have foiled a kidnapping attempt in Jos North Local Government Area of Plateau State, killing one suspected kidnapper and arresting three alleged informants linked to the criminal network.
The operation followed actionable intelligence received on 15 December 2025, which alerted security forces to a planned abduction in Dong community.
According to the military, troops deployed under Operation Peace Shield arrived swiftly at the scene, engaging the kidnappers and forcing them to abandon their initial plan and flee.
While retreating, the suspects reportedly moved into a neighbouring community where they abducted four people. Troops immediately launched a pursuit, leading to a gun battle during which one of the kidnappers was neutralised.
Weapons recovered from the scene included one AK-47 rifle, a magazine and four rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition, underscoring the lethal capacity of the criminal group.
Security forces also arrested three suspected informants believed to have provided intelligence and logistical support to the kidnappers.
The development was confirmed in a statement issued by the Media Information Officer of JTF Operation Enduring Peace, Major Samson Nantip Zhakom, and made available to journalists in Jos.
Military authorities say the operation reflects ongoing efforts to dismantle kidnapping networks and improve security across Plateau State, particularly in communities vulnerable to violent crime.
