Public Affairs Analyst Calls for NCC, NBC to Sanction Content Creators Amid Seyi Tinubu-VDM-King Mitchy Feud

Public affairs analyst and activist Blessing Akinlosotu has urged the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) and the Nigerian Broadcasting Commission (NBC) to intensify oversight of social media content creators, citing recent controversies involving President Bola Tinubu’s son, Seyi Tinubu, social commentator Martins Otse (popularly known as VeryDarkMan, VDM), and content creator Mitchel Mukoro (King Mitchy).

Akinlosotu made the call in a statement on Tuesday, emphasizing the need for regulatory action to prevent abuse and ensure accountability across digital platforms.

Social Media Feud Sparks Regulatory Concerns

The controversy erupted after VDM alleged that Seyi Tinubu and King Mitchy threatened his life over his commentary on a ₦100 million donation. Seyi Tinubu dismissed the claims in a detailed statement over the weekend. The feud escalated when reports surfaced suggesting that King Mitchy had allegedly attempted to take her own life.

Reacting to the situation, Akinlosotu criticized VDM for involving Seyi Tinubu unnecessarily and condemned King Mitchy’s reported actions.

“There must be strong sanctions, and some persons must be made scapegoats as a way of deterrence,” she said. “I call on the NCC, NBC, and other regulatory agencies to start paying closer and more serious attention to content being generated and churned out on a daily basis by creators across the federation.”

The Call for Accountability

Akinlosotu’s statement highlights growing concerns over the influence and responsibility of content creators in Nigeria, as viral content continues to shape public opinion and trigger real-world consequences. Analysts say her call may spark renewed discussions on stricter monitoring of digital media platforms to safeguard public discourse and individual safety.
