“Read the Room!” – VeryDarkMan Slams Davido, Burna Boy, Wizkid for Flaunting N6.4bn Cars While Nigerians Struggle

VeryDarkMan has sparked a wave of online backlash and heated debate after calling out music giants Davido, Burna Boy, and Wizkid for flaunting ultra-luxury cars worth billions amid Nigeria’s worsening economic crisis. In a viral Instagram video posted on Wednesday, June 12, 2025, the outspoken critic questioned the artists’ social responsibility and connection to their grassroots supporters.

The outrage began shortly after Burna Boy splashed a staggering ₦3.5 billion on a brand-new 2025 McLaren Sienna, becoming the first person in Africa to own the model. Hours later, Davido reportedly took delivery of a 2026 Mercedes Maybach SL 680, estimated at ₦1.2 billion. Just months earlier, Wizkid had acquired a ₦1.7 billion luxury vehicle, according to sources close to his camp.

VeryDarkMan, known for his raw, unfiltered criticism of celebrities and politicians alike, accused the trio of being tone-deaf and failing to “read the room” amid escalating food prices, unemployment, and inflation hurting millions of Nigerians. He emphasized that while the singers are not politicians, their influence comes with a responsibility to uplift communities that helped build their careers.

Speaking directly to Davido, whom he called “his guy,” VeryDarkMan demanded accountability. “What can you beat your chest and say you’ve done for Osun State—the place you claim?” he asked. “When your uncle was running for governor, you were everywhere. But since then, where are the schools, the youth centers, the development projects?”

He didn’t spare Burna Boy and Wizkid either, challenging them to show tangible contributions to their hometowns. “It’s not just about showing off on social media. People are dying of hunger. People are losing hope. These are your fans. These are the people that stream your songs and make you rich,” he said.

The critic’s statements have stirred reactions across social media. Some fans defended the artists, arguing they earned their wealth and could spend it however they wish. Others echoed VeryDarkMan’s sentiments, saying the disconnect between celebrities and their struggling fanbase is becoming painfully obvious.

With Davido reportedly worth over $40 million, Burna Boy recently selling out stadiums in Europe, and Wizkid holding a global fanbase, their influence goes far beyond music. The pressure is now mounting on whether they will respond to the call—not just with words or giveaways, but with lasting impact.
