Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara has explained why he met with President Bola Tinubu shortly after resuming office following six months of emergency rule in the state.
Fubara, who was officially reinstated last week, visited the Presidential Villa in Abuja on Monday evening, where he held a closed-door meeting with the president.
Speaking to journalists afterwards, the governor described the meeting as a “father-and-son” discussion focused on ensuring peace and stability in Rivers.
“You are aware that the suspension was lifted midnight, 17th, and I resumed on the 19th. I’m here to tell Mr President that I’m back and have also resumed my responsibility as Governor of Rivers State,” Fubara said.
He added that he sought Tinubu’s advice on critical issues to prevent a recurrence of the political crisis that led to the federal takeover of the state earlier in the year.
“It was a father and son discussion, telling him thank you and the areas he should guide me properly, so we don’t have a crisis again,” he noted.
Fubara’s return marks the end of one of Rivers State’s most turbulent political periods, with the governor positioning himself to restore stability while maintaining close ties with the presidency.
