Rivers People Must Know Tinubu–Fubara Agreement, Says Ann-Kio Briggs

Niger Delta activist Ann-Kio Briggs has called on Governor Siminalayi Fubara to disclose the details of the agreement he reached with President Bola Tinubu before the lifting of the six-month emergency rule in Rivers State.

Speaking on Channels Television’s Sunday Politics, Briggs argued that keeping the pact secret undermines transparency and risks damaging the governor’s credibility.

“We are the people who have paid the greatest price in all of this. To be unaware of decisions that will affect us makes it very difficult to flow with the politicians,” she said.

Briggs, who hails from the riverine area of Rivers State where Fubara comes from, described the lack of clarity as “unacceptable,” warning that citizens deserved to know what commitments had been made on their behalf.

“We don’t know what the President has insisted on, we don’t know what was agreed upon, and where that leads the people of Rivers State. So, we need to know,” she stressed.

The activist also demanded accountability from Rear Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas (retd.), who served as the state’s sole administrator during the emergency rule, insisting that public funds spent under his watch must be explained.

Governor Fubara returned to office on 17 September 2025, after Tinubu announced the end of emergency rule. He was received at Government House, Port Harcourt, by his wife, security chiefs, and political stakeholders before resuming duties.

The governor, his deputy Ngozi Odu, and members of the state assembly had been suspended on 18 March 2025 when President Tinubu declared emergency rule over political instability.
