Rivers State Police Enforce Movement Restrictions Ahead of By-Elections

Port Harcourt, Rivers State – The Rivers State Police Command has announced restrictions on movement ahead of the Saturday, February 21, by-elections for Ahoada East State Constituency II and Khana State Constituency II. The measures will be in effect from 12 noon to 6 p.m. in and around the two Local Government Areas (LGAs).

Security Measures to Ensure Safe Voting

Commissioner of Police Olugbenga Adepoju said the restrictions aim to guarantee a “peaceful, free, fair, and credible election.” Security personnel will be deployed across strategic locations, polling units, and major roads to prevent electoral violence, criminal activity, and any disruption of the voting process.

Residents have been advised to adhere strictly to the movement restrictions, avoid large gatherings near polling stations, refrain from carrying weapons, and report suspicious activities to authorities.

Warnings to Political Actors and the Public

Adepoju cautioned that anyone violating the restrictions or engaging in acts capable of disturbing the peace will face arrest and prosecution. Political parties, candidates, and their supporters were urged to shun violence and comply fully with the Electoral Act. Parents and guardians were also asked to ensure that their children are not used to incite trouble during the elections.

The Police Command reaffirmed its commitment to creating a secure environment for voters to exercise their civic rights without fear or intimidation.
